Comparison Essay

Almost always someone will have to deal with pain and gilt at some time in their life.  Just like Jonas in the book “The Giver” by Lois Lowry and also Kesha in her song ” Praying”. In both places they show that everyone will feel pain in their lives nonmatter what. But they also show that they is a way to get over that pain and gilt, by forgiving. That shows the book The Giver is somewhat similar to the Song praying.

One common theme in The giver and praying is that even if your deal with pain in your life you should to learn to forgive and forget. I know this because in The Giver Jonas learns about pain, suffering and war. But he has to push through it because he has to learn all these thing for the community. In the song Praying Kesha has to deal with pain and in an abusive relationship. I know this because in the song she said “Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell.” But in both instances they both learn to forgive the people who betrayed them. One other time you can see this happening in is the song when she says” I had to learn how to fight for myself.”

Although these things are very similar in some way they are still very different. One reason why they are different is because although they still go through pain they go through it in different ways. Like in The Giver Jonas has to literally learn what pain is because he has never felt it before. But in the song Praying kesha has to go through pain in a different way, by abuse and heart break. That is the reason why the book The Giver and the song Praying is different.

In both ” The Giver” and the song Praying they show the importance of dealing with pain. But they also show that is very important to forgive and forget. How I know this is that in both places they support the theme because in The Giver you can see Jonas go through a lot of pain but still not give up. In the song Praying you can also see that kesha goes through a lot of pain. So overall I think the theme that these pieces are trying to show is that even if your go through a lot of pain you can still learn to forgive and forget.

literary essay on the giver

The Giver by Lois Lowery is about a kid named Jonas that lives in a future society where everything is perfect. Nobody has to make decisions for themselves. Every person is assigned a job by the elders who make all the decisions. But it isn’t as perfect as it seems. Nobody has ever felt joy, love, or compassion. Except Jonas and the Giver, they hold all the memories of the world. One lesson that this story suggests is that memories are important.

In the beginning of the story the author develops the theme of the story by suggesting that the people don’t act normal. One example of this would be in the beginning when the pilot flies over the town and on the speakers the elders say that the pilot would be released and that shows that the people aren’t really normal. One other example is when Jonas sees color for the first time but he doesn’t even know what color is. Why that explains why memories are important nobody knows what color is, imagine a world without color.

towards the middle of the story the author develops the theme by showing that Jonas is the receiver of memories. What that job is that Jonas has to learn all of the memories of the world and keep them for everyone else. The reason why that supports the theme is that Jonas learns about so many good things in the world and that shows that memories are important because of all the things Jonas learns. Jonas also learns about all the bad things in the world and some people might say that that is bad for Jonas but I really think it is good for him so he can learn for the mistakes people have made

Finally in the end of the story Jonas learns what love and compassion really means. First Jonas learns what is wrong with the community and then he leaves with Gabe because he now knows how messed up that place was. As Jonas was leaving he had to care for Gabe and he learned to care for him. One other thing that happened was that Jonas leaned what love and compassion was when caring for Gabe. So overall I still think that one of the themes in this story was that memories are important.

introduction to The Giver

The setting of the novel takes place in a future settlement. In the settlement things are different from how they are now ,but not the way you think. The people are all assigned a certain job based off of he or she’s actions. When they turn 12 is when they are assigned a job. But in reality they are all the same.                  Jonas is the main character in the story. some of the main problems he is facing is that he doesn’t know what job he wants to get. He also doesn’t know what the elders will give him for a job. That shows an impact on him because he is stressed out about it. One other problem that he has is that he got the stirrings.

New Sports?

Can physical activity help improve a child’s academic performance? A recent report from the Institute of Medicine shows that kids with more physical activity do better in school. children who are more active show greater attention, have faster cognitive processing speed, and perform better on standardized academic tests than children who are less active. A more active child will also have more capacity to learn that one who is not active

No one knows for sure but multiple studies have shown that kids with more physical activity do better in school. “This is a very consistent finding, that physically fit kids do better in school,” says James Sallis, a professor of family and preventive medicine at the University of California at San Diego. But other sources show that it does not show any effect. It shows that it increases their social skills.

We interviewed parents that have kids who do a lot of physical activity and ones who don’t. It turns out the ones who do physical activity say their kids do better in school. One black hawk parent said this” of course it will help them in school, it will keep them motivated to even go to school.” It turns out that parents that have kids that do physical activity say their kids do better in school. But the parents that don’t, say that it doesn’t affect their children.

But that doesn’t stop Blackhawk kids from fighting for their right. What they are fighting for is that they want new sports and activities to do after school at Blackhawk. The only sports teams at Blackhawk is cross county, football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track. But Blackhawk students want more sports like baseball, tennis, golf and etcetera.

We can only imagine the reason why the kids want more activities and sports is because they feel like there is not enough opportunities for them to do things after school. Some of them even say it’s not fair. One Blackhawk 8th grader even said this” It’s not fair because the middle school students have just as much opportunity as the high school kids.” But others are making the argument that if high schools has these sports then they can just wait. That is Blackhawk’s students response is to this topic, comment on what your response is.
